Importing MXF files into Avid Media Composer

Last Updated: May 06, 2015 09:20AM PDT
The Pro versions of Squeeze allow for creation of MXF files with the Avid DNxHD codec. This format will allow you to drop your files directly into Media Composer without needing to transcode. This article will explain how to access these files in Avid for PC. It is important to follow these instructions, as the normal File>Import method will not work.

1. When using an MXF preset in Squeeze, the resulting output will be a folder full of various files. First you will need to rename this folder as a number. The number you need appears to be arbitrary.

2. Drag the folder that Squeeze produced and drop it into the following directory:

C:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF

3. Open Avid Media Composer and go to Tools>Media Tool

4. Select your project and select the boxes as seen in the screen shot below:

5. Media Tool will open with a number of MXF files as well as a video file.

6. Drag and drop the video file into your bin. The other MXF files will be associated with the video file.

You are now ready to work with the media that you created with Squeeze.
