Uninstalling Squeeze

Attention!: Before uninstalling Squeeze make sure you have your serial number(s) handy.
You can find your current serial key by going to the "About Squeeze" window located under Help > About Squeeze (PC) or Squeeze > About Squeeze (Mac). You will also need your original (non-upgrade) serial key as well as your current key if you are re-installing a Squeeze upgrade version.

When you would like to install Squeeze on another computer you must first deactivate on your current machine. (If you are re-installing Squeeze on the same computer AND operating system you do not need to perform this step.)
  • If you can open Squeeze, you can deactivate by going to the Help menu, and clicking 'Deactivate Squeeze.'
  • If you cannot access you copy of Squeeze you can contact us and we will deactivate your installation for you. Please include your name, serial key, and the email used when activating.
To uninstall Squeeze follow these steps below. Choose either the Quick Method or the Thorough Method.

Quick Method
Note: This method will leave some small data files on your computer

PC
  1. Go to Start and select the Control Panel
  2. Select Add or Remove Programs (WinXP) or Programs and Features (WinVista, Win7, Win8, Win10).
  3. Find and select Sorenson Squeeze from the list of currently installed programs
  4. Double-click the Change/Remove button.
  5. Select the Uninstall option and follow the on-screen prompts.

Mac
  1. Open the Finder window and go to your Applications folder.
  2. Locate the Squeeze folder.
  3. Move the Squeeze folder to the Trash.
  4. Empty Trash.

Thorough Method
This will completely remove Squeeze from your machine

Win 8/Win7/WinVista
  1. Uninstall Squeeze by going to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > Sorenson Squeeze (all versions) > Change/Remove > Uninstall.
  2. Uninstall FFDShow by going to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features > ffdshow (all versions) > Change/Remove > Uninstall
  3. Note: FFDShow is no longer installed automatically as of Squeeze 8.Please continue to the next step.
  4. Delete the Squeeze folder located here:
  5. C:\Users\[your name]\AppData\Roaming\SorensonMedia\
  6. If you can't see this folder you may need change your folder options by going to Tools > View > and check the box next to Show Hidden Files and Folders. Note: This is your custom settings folder so if you have any custom presets you may want to export them from Squeeze and save them elsewhere or make a copy of this folder and place it in a different location.
  7. Reboot your PC (if possible).

Win XP
  1. Uninstall Squeeze by going to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Sorenson Squeeze (all versions) > Change/Remove > Uninstall.
  2. Uninstall FFDShow by going to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove programs > ffdshow (all versions) > Change/Remove > Uninstall   *Note: Skip this step if using Squeeze 8 or higher. FFDShow is no longer installed automatically.
  3. Delete the Squeeze folder located here:
  4. C:\Documents and Settings\[your name]\Application Data\SorensonMedia
  5. If you can't see this folder you may need change your folder options by going to Tools > View > and check the box next to Show Hidden Files and Folders. Note: This is your custom settings folder so if you have any custom presets you may want to export them from Squeeze and save them elsewhere or make a copy of this folder and place it in a different location.
  6. Reboot your PC (if possible).

Mac OS X
  1. Open your Applications folder and drag the Squeeze folder to the trash.
  2. Open Finder and go to Macintosh HD (system volume) /Library/Preferences/
  3. Delete the .plist file "com.SorensonMedia.Squeeze 6.plist" (If there are more than one .plist file with SorensonMedia or Squeeze in the name, delete them all.)
  4. Open Finder and go to Macintosh HD/Users/[your user name]/Library/Preferences/ and delete the .plist file "com.SorensonMedia.Squeeze 6.plist" If there are more than one .plist file with SorensonMedia or Squeeze in the name, delete them all. *Note to OSX 10.7-10.9 users: To view the Macintosh HD folder you will need reveal the Library folder by following the steps below*
  5.  Delete the "SorensonMedia" folder *Note: This is your custom settings folder so if you have any custom presets you may want to export them from Squeeze and save them elsewhere or make a copy of this folder and place it in a different location.

*OS 10.7, 10.8, and 10.9 users
The Library folder in your user home directory is hidden by default. You will need to make it visible by using one of these methods:

Method #1
  • Open Finder and go to your user' home folder (Macintosh HD > Users > [your user name])
  • Click on the "Go" menu at the top of the screen
          
  • Hold down the ALT key to reveal the Library folder
          
  • Click on the Library folder in the Go menu and now perform step #5 above.

Method #2
  • Open Terminal in your Utilities folder in Applications.
  • Type the following into Terminal or cut and paste:  chflags nohidden ~/Library/
  • Now your Library folder will be visible and now perform step #5 above.
